This Labradorite table accent, measuring 5.94" tall, 3.46" wide, 2" thick, and weighing 2.06 lbs, arrives from Madagascar with the vivid, shifting flash that makes labradorite so hard to look away from. Labradorite is a feldspar mineral prized for labradorescence, an optical effect in which light interacts with the stone's internal structure to produce flashes of purple, gold, blue and green. The mineral takes its name from Labrador, Canada, where it was first described, and it is also found in Russia.
Turn it in the light and the iridescence rolls across the surface like a living thing. Display it on a console, mantel, or sideboard where the light can reach it from different angles. It's a piece of northern sky you can set on a table.
Purple labradorescence is notoriously hard to capture on camera, so be sure to watch the video, which shows the full flash of color as the light moves across the stone.
